I’d start a new page and invite friends to join it. That way if they want to follow your music career, they’ll sign up to that as well. You make a good point about annoying friends, that’s not a good idea. Definitely keep them separate, there’s no harm in starting out small. Good luck!

I’m interested in creating a facebook page for myself as an artist – and I’m really unsure whether to use my existing FB page with my existing 190 odd friends as a starting point.. or whether to start a brand new artist page?

My thoughts are that my existing facebook page would act as a marketing tool in itself, by promoting my music to my friends, their friends, etc… But at the same time, I wouldn’t want my friends to get annoyed with weekly/daily updates from me as an artist when they just want to be my friend…?

Your advice will be most appreciated..

Thanks
z

Having a strong social following definitely can help, as long as they’re genuine followers that are responsive to your communications.

I think it’s so important to note how important it is to get likes and social media followers generally once you post music or put up a page. Acts are more likely than ever to be signed (or to be successful independently if getting signed is not the goal) if they have alot of social media followers.

There are a lot of platforms that you could potentially learn, but in all honesty it’s often not worth it. Focus on one or two, and forget about the rest. There are guides for using Facebook and Twitter effectively on this site, so maybe just go with those and forget the rest? Then your time could be focused on putting your efforts where they are really needed: The making and promoting of your music. Thanks for the comment.

Many music blogs don’t teach people how to use social media music tools and widgets.

Many people think that young people have all the time in the world to be able to set up their websites and social media sites. Not everyone is completely internet proficient, but even if they are, new platforms and interfaces take time to learn.

Thanks for sharing!

I like the fact that err thing was just “Straight 2D Point” & I’ve gained some really good knowledge (here) from you, especially for the fact that I’ll be making my first Music Upload today…
Buh… I think It’d be better if you just continue like this (the Video & Transcript Method). So, that’s it for now bro; buh… Once again, I Wanna say; Thank you very much.

I think I’m going to be doing a mix of written posts and video in future, depending on what I feel will suit the topic best.

I’m glad you said that about no fluff, that was exactly my aim. Watching videos where people talk for ages instead of getting to the point seems super boring for me, and makes me want to switch off.

Glad you enjoyed the video though, the next one I’m planning for you is definitely not to be missed 😉
